Happy New Year
We are pleased to say that 2018 sees the Centre entering its 35th year of service to our local community. In November 1983 when the Centre first opened we were known as the Unemployed Workers Centre. Despite the name change in 1996 and our charitable registration in September2000, our work has always and continues, to focus on helping, supporting and advising those less fortunate.
The Centre received 54 Harvest deliveries this autumn. This surpassed last years figure of 51 deliveries.
Many, many thanks to schools, nurseries, churches and other local groups who collected provisions on our behalf.
A note of interest - as the Universal Credit full service is operating in the borough now, the Centre is giving out more emergency provisions as never before.
Congratulations to Chrissie who was highly commended under the Community Star Category in the Pride of Basildon Borough awards.
The Centre Management and Trustees are indebted to the hours of volunteering people provide for us. It is therefore extra special when one of our volunteer team is recognised in this way.
Cats and Dog!
The Centre welcomes donations of cat and dog food. These items are given out in our emergency parcels once we are aware there are pets.
STOP PRESS - LANDLORDS NEEDED
Due to the increasing demand for private rented property in the Borough, the Centre would be pleased to hear from new potential landlords willing to accept payment by housing benefit (Local Housing Allowance can be paid direct to Landlords).
The Centre provides a full referral service for landlords together with advice and guidance concerning housing legislation. We have over 25 years experience of working with landlords and tenants.
Get in touch today to see how we can help fill your vacant property/rooms. Please contact Linda Figg during normal office hours on:
01268 450040/1 or email@example.com
Current landlords please note two new legislations regarding "Notice to Quit" and "Tenants Right to Rent" click to go to relevant Government website page
Landlords should also be fitting carbon monoxide detectors alongside the necessary smoke detectors. Please contact Linda Figg if you require further clarification.
Co-op Community Funding
The Centre was chosen earlier in the year as a Co-op local worthy cause.
As a result of people shopping locally in Co-op and nominating the Centre as their local cause, a sum of £2,511.83 was raised.
Many thanks to all those Co-op shoppers who generously donated to us and of course to the Co-operative Society itself.
Welcome To Our Centre
We provide a range of services for those who are homeless, on low incomes, unwaged, retired or poorly. Increasingly people who require our help are impoverished, vulnerable, disenfranchised and at risk.
We offer support regarding:
We operate a one-off emergency food and toiletry parcel scheme for those in crisis. This service may be accessed by referral in writing from any local statutory organisation, charity, agency or philanthropic group. Kindly note we are not a Food Bank and are able to offer help one time only.
We are grateful to accept food donations from the public but they must be long shelf life only please. Toiletries are also accepted.
We are sorry we are unable to accept fresh food. If you would like to collect suitable items for our food and toiletry scheme kindly refer to the list (click here) and bring them along to the Centre 10.00am - 2.00pm Monday to Friday.
Howden Joinery Ltd - Donations
During the later part of 2017, Martin Stroud of Howdens, Luckyn Lane, Basildon, kindly delivered food and toiletries following a staff collection. Shortly after this donation, a further donation of money was made to go towards our work. These acts of kindness were greatly appreciated.
First day back to work in 2018 saw Martin Stroud visit the Centre again, this time with a cheque for £500 from the Luckyn Lane Store.
A big thank you to Howdens for a very positive and cheering start to the New Year.
Metro Bank Donations
Thank you to the colleagues at Metro Bank Basildon who kindly collected food and toiletries for use in the Centre's emergency parcel scheme.
Thanks also for the supply of another 100 Metro Bank strong carrier bags; these are really appreciated for use when we supply provisions to those in crisis.
A Financial Reality
Our Annual appeal was despatched April 2017 to over 600 Trusts and Foundations.
The Centre's funds are being depleted a quite a pace. In order to continue to offer a full range of services, the Centre needs to realise an annual income in excess of £130,000.
Can you help? Please contact the Centre if you wish to make a difference by making a donation - every penny counts!

Room Hire/Meeting Facilities
The Centre has recently bid farewell to our long term room let on the first floor here. We wish the Therapy4U team all good wishes.
The Centre is able to provide two large training rooms or a smaller room that lends itself for meetings of up to 8 people or as a small office space. The Centre can be extremely flexible and both training rooms are also suitable for office space.
We have rooms available (with WiFi) for weekday daytime meetings, training and seminars. Telephone or email Maggie Viney on 01268 450040 or firstname.lastname@example.org for availability, facilities and cost.
