Our Mission

We see individuals and families from all walks of life and backgrounds, at their wits end, vulnerable, impoverished and often in crisis. Many are absolutely destitute as well as being poorly, disenfranchised, homeless and/or unemployed. Our aim is not to judge but to listen and advise when appropriate, in order to help turn lives around. With support and patience, clients are able to become independent, dignified and self sufficient members of society once more.

New Year Message

Best wishes and a happy new year to all our supporters.

For our clients the new year continues at times to be challenging and stressful.  The welfare reforms are not going to be any gentler this year than the last.

Centre staff, volunteers and trustees remain positive that in offering a warm comfortable environment and a kind word does in fact contribute in alleviating worry.

If you know of a family or an individual in crisis, please do pass our details to them - we are here to help.

New Walk-In Service

Following staff training the Centre is now able to offer a walk-in service at 10.00am each morning for the completion of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) forms and Attendance Allowance forms.

Update - Harvest 2018

The Centre was delighted in the autumn 2018 to recieve 61 deliveries of food, toiletries, toys and household items, from the borough's churches and other faith organisations, schools, businesses and indiviuals.  Many thanks to all who donated.

In addition to provisions a significant number of donners also gave financial donations, thank you very much.

All these goods are used to support those in crisis; our parcels are varied, relevant and very well received.

Volunteers

The Centre Management and Trustees are indebted to our team of volunteers who provide hours of help.

The talent of our volunteers is diverse and we couldn't operate without their support.

Big hugs and massive thanks - you know who you are!

Happy Client!

STOP PRESS - LANDLORDS NEEDED

Due to the increasing demand for private rented property in the Borough, the Centre would be pleased to hear from new potential landlords.

The Centre provides a full referral service for landlords together with advice and guidance concerning housing legislation.  We have over 25 years experience of working with landlords and tenants.

Get in touch today to see how we can help fill your vacant property/rooms.  Please contact Linda Figg during normal office hours on:

01268 450040/1 or lindafigg@basildoncrc.com

Current landlords please note two pieces of legislation regarding "Notice to Quit" and "Tenants Right to Rent" kindly click to go to relevant Government website page

Landlords should also be fitting carbon monoxide detectors alongside the necessary smoke detectors.  Please contact Linda Figg if you require further clarification.

Anniversary

We were pleased in November 2018 to celebrate the Centre entering its 35th year of service to our local community.  In November 1983 when the Centre first opened we were known as the Unemployed Workers Centre.  Despite the name change in 1996 and our charitable registration in September 2000, our work has always and continues, to focus on helping, supporting and advising those less fortunate.

Welcome To Our Centre

We provide a range of services for those who are homeless, on low incomes, unwaged, retired or poorly. Increasingly people who require our help are in crisis, impoverished, vulnerable, disenfranchised and often at risk.

We offer support regarding:
  • Accommodation and Housing advice
  • Welfare Rights guidance
  • Form filling (online and paper)
  • Clothes bank
  • Public service literature
  • Sign posting and referrals to specialist agencies
  • Full service relating to the completion of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) forms.  (This includes Mandatory Reconsiderations and Appeals)

We operate a one-off emergency food and toiletry parcel scheme for those in crisis. This service may be accessed by referral in writing from any local statutory organisation, charity, agency or philanthropic group. Kindly note we are not a Food Bank and are able to offer help one time only.

We are grateful to accept food donations from the public but they must be long shelf life only please. Toiletries are also accepted.

We are sorry we are unable to accept fresh food.  If you would like to collect suitable items for our food and toiletry scheme kindly refer to the list (click here) and bring them along to the Centre 10.00am - 2.00pm Monday to Friday.

A Financial Reality

Picture
Our Annual appeal was despatched April 2018 to over 600 Trusts and Foundations.

The Centre's funds are being depleted a quite a pace.  In order to continue to offer a full range of services, the Centre needs to realise an annual income in excess of £130,000.

Can you help?  Please contact the Centre if you wish to make a difference by making a donation - every penny counts!

Alternatively click here to donate electronically or at the top of this page.

Room Hire/Meeting Facilities

The Centre is able to provide two large training rooms or a smaller room that lends itself for meetings of up to 8 people or as a small office space. The Centre can be extremely flexible and both training rooms are also suitable for office space.

We have rooms available (with WiFi) for weekday daytime meetings, training and seminars.  Telephone or email  Maggie Viney on 01268 450040 or mv.bcrc@virgin.net  for availability, facilities and cost.
